Burnout is the result of being in a state of sustained, chronic stress that, over time, reduces your ability to handle regular day to day stressors with ease. It often presents with both physical and psychological symptoms that can include brain fog, digestive issues, sleep issues, fatigue, apathy/boredom, resentment, & more.
The risk factors burnout can look a little different for everyone. Some examples include lack of autonomy, lack of recognition, family learned patterns, abuse or trauma, cultural differences, discrimination, individualism, perfectionism, poor boundaries, environment, lack of exposure to nature, chronic illness, mental health challenges, and more. Often, people feel trapped - they know they don't want the life they currently have (even if it looks amazing from the outside) but they also don't know how to change it.
